This recipe was originally found over at Mommy's Kitchen, just in time to add to our New Year's Eve Table! Tucked inside these tender balls of pizza crust is tasty shredded mozzarella cheese and pepperoni. I served these along the side with some yummy pizza sauce for dipping since these do not have sauce inside.
I used our favorite pizza crust recipe (see below), stuffed each square with cheese and pepperoni and baked for 20 minutes in a 400* oven. We originally were going to just order pizza but these sounded yummy, and I did make the decision today that we are going to cut down on food we eat outside of our home.
*Pizza Crust Dough (see below)
1 jar of your favorite pizza sauce for dipping
1 bag of shredded mozzarella
1 bag of pepperoni
Roll out dough into a large triangle. Cut into approximately 24 squares. (It will not look big enough, but trust me, it works!) I put about three or four pepperoni per square and topped with shredded cheese. I politely tucked all the edges around the filling forming a little pocket pinching all seams together. It really does look like a pillow! ~smile ~ Place on a foil lined cookie sheet with seams on the bottom side. Leave just a tad bit of space to allow them to grow a bit while baking. Spray with butter and sprinkle with garlic salt. Bake for 20 minutes in a 400* preheated oven.
Pizza Crust Dough
2 1/2 to 3 cups all purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
1 teaspoon salt
2 1/4 tsp active dry yeast
3 TBS veg oil
1 cup very warm water (not to exceed 130*)
Mix 1 cup of flour, yeast, sugar, salt in a large bowl. Add oil and warm water. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for about 3 minutes making sure to scrape down the sides. Stir in enough remaining flour until dough is soft and leaves the side of the bowl. Place dough on counter that has been floured and knead 5 to 8 minutes or until dough is soft and springy. Cover loosely and allow to rise and set for about 30 minutes. Proceed to use this dough for the above recipe for Pizza Dunkers.
