Energy Vampires

"All you have to do is think about your own life. Think about the people who increase your energy and those who drain you. Think about the foods you eat that make you feel great and those that, make you want to take a nap. Think about the projects at work that energize you and those that burn you out. Everything is energy. It is found in our thoughts, the words we say  the music we listen to, and the people who we surround ourselves with. Ate you with Mr, George?" ~ The Energy Bus by Jon Gordon

Yesterday, after my post on New School Year Commitments and before I started reading this book, I indeed began to let go of my own "energy vampires". It started in cleaning up some of the friend list on facebook. That was hard, because I had to be brutally honest with myself. I had to take a moment and take in consideration one thing. "Does this person/web page/activity rob me of the positive energy I need to live a life of joy, energy, and passion?" Another BIG kicker for me was if that person/web page/activity encouraged me to seek out the positives in others or do they/ does it cause me to reflect on the negative qualities of myself and others? I don't know if you have noticed this or not but we live in a pretty negative world with the majority of society wanting to point blame onto someone other then their own consequences for the actions they themselves created.

It wasn't that hard once I got a clear picture in my mind and a clear vision for my life. There will always be one question I will need to ask myself in these kind of situations. "Am I doing this /avoiding this in order to gain approval from others?"

I can honestly say one thing. I have indeed grown up this summer!! I have gone from a negative people pleasing ninny who was so unsure of herself to a woman who is excited about life again and living her life fully to the limit each day, and knowing she's good at what she does. My husband is not so sure what to think about this change, but I am sure as the days/weeks/months go on he will be able to see "It's a good thing" (spoken in my best Martha Stewart voice). To some I may be beginning to sound like a bragging know it all who thinks she's perfect, but let me assure you that's not the case. I have discovered the peace in knowing that being a preschool teacher for three year olds in the exact school I am teaching at is my purpose for right this minute! It is a HUGE part of who I am, deep down within, and I LOVE that I have discovered this over the summer. There have been situations in the past I would focus on, and allow to that focus dominate how I think and  process things. I realize so much of our life is dominated by our thought life and those energy "vampires" that we give so much of ourselves to. Why do that?! Aren't you worth feeling GOOD about who you are, what your doing in this lifetime, finding your purpose, and walking as well as breathing with JOY in every moment?!

Taking the time and evaluating my purpose, my passions in this life, AND being thankful from the beginning of the day ~ reflecting on the good things that happened at the end of the day is ONE amazing transformation. It has fueled me to go even deeper then ever before in living life with a purpose. Letting go of "energy vampires" ~ and things that truly zap your energy and joy is one of the BEST gifts you can give yourself. So, I am going to end this post ~ with two questions for you.

1.  Does this person/web page/activity rob me of the positive energy you need to live a life of joy, energy, and passion?

2. Does that person/web page/activity encouraged you to seek out the positives in others or do they/ does it cause you to reflect on the negative qualities of yourself and others?

If you do not like the answer ~ then it's time to let it go and move yourself towards what you REALLY desire!
