What are you giving your energy to?
What is it that you are giving your energy to right now? Think about it, you are indeed giving your energy to something/someone. What is it?
I am on the brink of the end of the school year (only 12 more school days to go), and while it is exciting to be facing summer vacation it also lends to going from a double income family to a single income family for two months. YIKES! I am giving tons of energy to finishing up the little things in my classroom ~ those last little lessons that need to be taught, getting in one more scissor session, and one more science experiment to just "see" what happens. At home, it is getting my own children through their last finals, field trips, tryouts, and making sure they indeed finish up the best they can. Weekends are full of yard work, family visits, among simply just catching up from the busy week.
So, what is it that I am giving my energy to? Can I pinpoint where the majority of it is going? ... Today I feel spread too thin. If I am honest, I have a few concerns. Will it be a difficult burden for the husband to carry such a load for two months financially? Last year it was hard, probably harder then we have had it in a few years but guess what ~ God saw us through. If I listened to the voice of people and of my inner self I felt very unworthy, worthless, and like I wasn't doing enough. Why? I don't know it was what I was hearing ~ both coming at me, and in my own head. During that time i was able to love on my husband more. Take better care of our home and children than I had in a few months. In fact, my relationship with God wasn't strained because I was able to spend time to focus on HIM, yet .... I wasn't "helping out". *sigh*
There are a few unanswered questions about the next school year, though I can't be burdened with those right now. It's too far away.
One thing I do know. God's word is true. And this is what His word tells me:
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! 5 Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. Philippians 4:4-9 NIV
One area that He is always stretching me is to simply trust Him and His ways. Sometimes as easy as it sounds, it is the hardest thing to do. The more often I am anxious (worry) about the little things ~ the less I see Him trying to move in those little things AND especially the BIG things.
Here is another promise I must stand on today:
25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Matthew 6: 25-26 NIV
This tells me ~ do not worry about groceries. They will be provided. Do not worry about clothing ~ God's got that handled too. I bet if I went to God with every concern, and trusted as a child would, every single thing would be handled just fine ~ in HIS time.
So, again I ask you. If you trust God, and are not anxious about anything (NOTHING), what are you going to give your energy to? Do you realize how much energy that free's up?
